The History of Socialism
May 22, 2009 – 5:00 pmCheck out my rather lengthy response to Eric’s post about Tom Phillip’s speech on the history of socialism at Tygrrrrr Express.
A genuinely comprehensive and critical history of socialism written from the conservative perspective is badly needed. We do have a number of good books, essays, articles and speeches that critique aspects of that history and that ideology, but none do so comprehensively.
I’d love to read a good one that addresses the following question in a detailed fashion: Why are human beings prone to the belief that a very few humans can do a better job of running the lives of hundreds of millions of people than those hundreds of millions of people? I’ve never understood this mindset. Have you?
Here is my small contribution, a critique of socialism in the form of a debate with a liberal pulled from an Ann Coulter thread at Townhall.com. I cleaned out the redundancies and the comments not addressing the point, and republished the lengthy exchange here.

Glenn Beck has been expounding on the history of progressivism in the U.S. Post on this topic to come. My one time hero, TR, being the (well one) villain of the piece.
Great stuff Sally, Thanks!!

I know Glenn Beck is the author of several books. Does one of them address what I think needs to be addressed in a somewhat similar manner to the way I think it should be addressed?
I suspect a book on the history of socialism written by Glenn Beck would have some bite.
