Update on Porkulus
January 30, 2009 – 2:10 pmDear MUT: I have contacted my Senators and am not sure if it did any good. Do you have an update on the status on the awful bill being proposed in the Senate disguised as “stimulus”.
Dear Friend: Let me give you a little good news — your concerns have at least been heard! Apparently, the economic enema that was initially touted as a cure-all is meeting some opposition.
McCain: I don’t see any GOP votes for the stimulus in the Senate
Too good to check? Maybe, but I don’t think Maverick’s bluffing this time. So craptastic is this crap sandwich that Democrat Ben Nelson felt obliged to warn The One this morning that he can’t count on a straight party-line yes from his own side, hint hint.
And to add insult to injury, he chose Fox News as the network on which to deliver that message.
What can I say? I report, you deride!
UPDATE TO THE UPDATE:
200 top economic minds signed a national ad published in The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal against the trillion dollar spending binge proposed by democrats. The ad, sponsored by the Cato Institute, blasts the massive boondoggle that funds liberal projects under the guise of “stimulating” the economy.
St. Louis Today and Free Republic reported:“There is no disagreement that we need action by our government, a recovery plan that will help to jumpstart the economy.”
President-Elect Barack Obama
January 9, 2009With all due respect Mr. President, that is not true. Notwithstanding reports that all economists are now Keynesians and that we all support a big increase in the burden of government, we the undersigned do not believe that more government spending is a way to improve economic performance. More government spending by Hoover and Roosevelt did not pull the United States economy out of the Great Depression in the 1930s. More government spending did not solve Japan’s “lost decade” in the 1990s. As such, it is a triumph of hope over experience to believe that more government spending will help the U.S. today.

I contacted one of my Senators. I am quite sure that they don’t listen, but I hope to have added my voice in opposition, as I assume that they are keeping a for/against running count. At least I’m on record; I’d feel derelict in my duty to have said nothing while my country and my children’s future were sold for a mess of pottage.
